When you walk in Khammam, you may feel like you stepped into a time machine.
Everything here has a story!

📛 How Khammam Got Its Name

Long ago, there was a small hill with a special temple on top —
the Stambhadri Narasimha Swamy Temple.

  • Stambha = Pillar

  • Adri = Hill

So people called it Pillar Hill.
Locals said Khammammettu, which means “place at the foot of the pillar.”
Over time, this big name became short and cute — Khammam!

👑 Who Ruled Khammam?

  • Kakatiya Kings built the famous Khammam Fort 1,000 years ago!

  • Qutb Shahis made it stronger.

  • Nizams ruled it for many years after that.

So many kings… no wonder the city feels royal!
