🌄 Where is Bandaje Trek?

Bandaje is in a small village near Ujire, it is in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. It’s close to Dharmasthala, a very famous temple town. I think you may have visited before. The main attraction here is the Bandaje Arbi Falls. In Tulu, Arbi means waterfall. So Bandaje Arbi means Bandaje Waterfall.

The waterfall drops from a high cliff — around 200 feet — and disappears into the deep forest. When I first saw it, I just stood there for a few minutes. The sound of the water hitting the rocks, the cold wind on my face, and that green all around… it was just magical.

🚗 How I Reached Bandaje

I started from Ujire town early in the morning. The road was calm, with trees on both sides and the smell of wet mud in the air. From Ujire, I took a small jeep ride to Bandaje village, which is the starting point of the trek.

If you are coming from far, you can reach Dharmasthala or Ujire by bus. From Mangalore, it’s around 80 to 100 km. The best way is to come by your own vehicle or rent a car or bike from Mangalore.

🥾 The Trek Begins

I started my trek around 7:30 in the morning. The forest was still wet from the night rain. The air was cool, and I could see mist moving between the trees. The first part of the trek was through a forest path — small, green, and full of bird sounds.

Sometimes I had to bend down because tree branches were hanging low. I could hear the sound of a small stream somewhere nearby. I was walking slow, enjoying the silence. The sunlight was falling through the trees, making the leaves shine like they had a glow of their own.

After walking for about one hour, the forest started to open up. The green trees turned into open grasslands. The view from there was amazing. You can see big hills covered in clouds and valleys so deep that they almost look like another world.

🏰 Ballalarayana Durga Fort

The ancient Ballalarayana Durga Fort stands proudly on the Bandaje Trek route, offering breathtaking views of the Western Ghats and rolling green hills.

Halfway through the trek, I reached Ballalarayana Durga Fort. It’s an old fort on top of a hill. The fort is mostly in ruins now, but the view from there is one of the best you can get. The wind here was strong and cold. I sat there for a while, just looking at the clouds moving fast.

If you are into photography or videography, this place is perfect. You can take wide shots of the hills, drone shots, or even short clips for your YouTube video.

💦 Reaching Bandaje Falls

After crossing the fort area, the trail goes up and down through grasslands. From a distance, I could hear the sound of the waterfall. That sound made me walk faster. When I finally reached Bandaje Arbi Falls, I was speechless.

The waterfall was falling straight from a cliff, surrounded by green hills. The water was crystal clear and cold. I sat near the edge, feeling the tiny drops of water hitting my face. The air was fresh and cold, and I could see rainbows forming in the mist.  Visit Bijapur

It’s one of those places where you just sit silently. You don’t even feel like talking because the view itself speaks.

🌤️ Best Time to Visit

If you are planning to go, the best time is October to February. During these months, the weather is cool, and the trail is dry. You can also go just after the monsoon, but be careful because the path becomes slippery, and there will be a lot of leeches.

Avoid trekking during heavy rains. The water level goes up fast, and the forest becomes very dense and wet.

🪵 What to Carry

Here’s what I carried and what you should too:

2–3 liters of water (you won’t get water on the way)

Some snacks or energy bars

A rain jacket if the sky looks cloudy

Trekking shoes with a good grip

A cap or hat

Camera or phone for photos and videos

Small first aid kit

Always keep your bag light. You will have to walk for around 12 km (both ways), so a heavy bag will make it tough.

🧭 Forest Permission

Since this area is protected forest land, you will need permission from the Forest Department. You can get it from Ujire or Belthangady Forest Office. If you go with a local guide, they can help you get the permit easily.

🌅 Camping at Bandaje

Some trekkers stay overnight near the top of the falls or near Ballalarayana Durga. If you plan to camp, take a tent, sleeping bag, and food with you. Nights here are cold, and the sound of the wind is strong but peaceful.

Lying under the open sky and watching stars after a long trek — it’s one of the best feelings you can have.

📸 Tips for YouTubers and Bloggers

As a travel vlogger myself, I can say this trek gives you some of the best natural visuals. Here are some tips:

Use a wide-angle lens or GoPro for capturing the open grasslands.

Keep your mic covered (the wind noise is strong).

Record small clips while walking — talk naturally, like you are talking to your viewers.

For your blog, describe what you see, feel, and smell — not just what you do.

Use words like “green”, “cold”, “fresh”, “mist”, and “peaceful” — they help people imagine the scene.

If you write or talk from your heart, people can feel it.  Bidar here

💚 Why You Should Visit

Bandaje Trek is not just about walking up a hill. It’s about feeling the nature that we often forget in our busy lives. The smell of the soil, the sound of the wind, the taste of cold water from the stream — all these small things make the trek special.

If you love nature, if you want a break from city noise, or if you just want to feel alive again, then this is the place.

I was tired when I reached back to Bandaje village in the evening, but I was happy. The kind of peace I felt that day stayed with me for a long time.

🌿 Final Words

Bandaje Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in Karnataka. It’s not very easy, but it’s not too hard either. If you plan well and start early, you can finish it in a day.

I would like tell tell you gays — just don’t see places, feel them. Feel the arbi fall air, smell it, When you go for the Bandaje trek, don’t hurry. Walk slowly, breathe the cold air, touch the leaves, listen to the birds, and watch the clouds move. I am sure you guys will enjoy the trip and you will like this, the real place to visit.
